Hike to Himmerod Monestary (All Ages) SRP 2024 In-Person
Join us for this fun and exciting event created for family and solo hikers of ALL AGES!
Conquer the great outdoors with us and join us on a family-friendly hike to the beautiful Himmerod Abbey!
Himmerod Abbey was originally founded in 1134 as a Cistercian abbey by Saint Bernard and operated until the early 19th century before it fell into ruin and was later revived by Cistercian monks from the 1920s onwards until its disestablishment was announced in 2017. While not an operating monastery anymore, the grounds still house a beautiful church, museum, guesthouse, restaurant, art & book shop, and fishery.
- 9:00 AM: Meet at the library to embark on our quest.
- Halfway point: snack and water break
- 12:30 PM: Time to eat at the abbey restaurant and explore the grounds & shops.
- 2:30 PM: Return to the library via bus.
Please reserve a space for every member of your party!
This program will be held outside during potentially hot and sunny weather - consider wearing sunscreen and other sun protection. The program may be cancelled in case of inclement weather. The halfway point snack will be provided by the library. Attendees need to pay for their own meals at the abbey restaurant should you choose to eat there.
